Direct Imaging of Fine Structure in the Chromosphere of a Sunspot Umbra

چکیده
High-resolution imaging observations from the Hinode spacecraft in the Ca II H line are employed to study the dynamics of the chromosphere above a sunspot. We find that umbral flashes and other brightenings produced by the oscillation are extremely rich in fine structure, even beyond the resolving limit of our observations (0.22”). The umbra is tremendously dynamic, to the point that our time cadence of 20 s does not suffice to resolve the fast lateral (probably apparent) motion of the emission source. Some bright elements in our dataset move with horizontal propagation speeds of 30 km s. We have detected filamentary structures inside the umbra (some of which have a horizontal extension of ∼1500 km) which, to our best knowledge, had not been reported before. The power spectra of the intensity fluctuations reveals a few distinct areas with different properties within the umbra that seem to correspond with the umbral cores that form it. Inside each one of these areas the dominant frequencies of the oscillation are coherent, but they vary considerably from one core to another. A study on Ca II 854.2 nm emission in a sunspot umbra using a thin cloud model
In the present work, we introduce and explain a method of solution of the radiative transfer equation based on a thin cloud model. The efficiency of this method to retrieve dynamical chromospheric parameters from Stokes I profiles of Ca II 854.2 nm line showing spectral emission is investigated. The analyzed data were recorded with the Crisp Imaging Spectro-Polarimeter (CRISP) at Swedish 1-m So...
متن کاملThe dependence of the magnetic field strength of a sunspot umbra on its intensity and brightness temperature
A partial decrease of the convective energy by the magnetic field of a sunspot causes the temperature of the magnetized plasma to decrease and this leads to a magneto-hydrostatic equilibrium. Thus, we expect a strong relation between magnetic field strength of a sunspot and its temperature/brightness. Here, we investigate this relation in the umbra of the large sunspot in NOAA10930 using spectr...
متن کاملOBSERVATION OF THE CHROMOSPHERIC SUNSPOT AT MILLIMETER RANGE WITH THE NOBEYAMA 45 m TELESCOPE
The brightness temperature of the radio free–free emission at millimeter range is an effective tool for characterizing the vertical structure of the solar chromosphere. In this paper, we report on the first single-dish observation of a sunspot at 85 and 115 GHz with sufficient spatial resolution for resolving the sunspot umbra using the Nobeyama 45 m telescope. We used radio attenuation materia...

Spectropolarimetric time series data of the primary spot of active region NOAA 9448 were obtained in the Si i 10827 Å line and the He i 10830 Å multiplet with the Tenerife Infrared Polarimeter. Throughout the time series the spectrograph slit was fixed over a region covering umbra, a light bridge, penumbra, and quiet sun. We present speeds of running penumbral waves in the chromosphere, their r...
متن کاملUmbral Fine Structures in Sunspots Observed with Hinode Solar Optical Telescope
High resolution imaging observation of a sunspot umbra was done with Hinode Solar Optical Telescope (SOT). Filtergrams in wavelengths of blue and green continuum were taken during three consecutive days. The umbra consisted of a dark core region, several diffuse components and numerous umbral dots. We derived basic properties of umbral dots (UDs), especially their temperatures, lifetimes, prope...
